Dear Student and Parents: Bayside Baptist Church Student Ministry Opportunity

On behalf of our Elders and Student Leadership Team, we are excited to announce a new ministry team for Bayside students who are in middle and high school. (6th – 12th grade). This new team is called the “Bayside Student Travel Team" with participation availability set to open for the 2023-2024 church year. (September – August)

This team is designed for students who are regular and faithful members of our Bayside Student Ministry and who have a desire to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ as they serve His church here at Bayside. Students who wish to be on this team should meet the program eligibility requirements and demonstrate a heart of caring, sharing and serving in our church and community as well as living out our mission to: CONNECT – GROW – SERVE and GO. (Acts 1:8)

Students who are a part of this team are invited to attend overnight trips and other special events that the church and/or youth group take to various destinations. Notice of these trips will be given via invitation as they are planned and become available. Students on this team will also be eligible for resources such as scholarships (as needed), t-shirts, bible study, evangelism and outreach materials and other items. Students are also eligible to be a part of our Student Council and Planning Team.

While our commitment is to love and serve ALL students and point them to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, this team is for those who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to help our church youth group grow both spiritually and physically. Students on this team consistently demonstrate a Christ-like character, commitment and service in their lives.

In military terms, this is the “special forces” team. They are Ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). They are “Doers of THE WORD, not just hearers.” (James 1:22-26). They put into practice our church motto to “Love God, Love People.” (Mark 12:30-31) When attending these special travel events, we want students to not only have a “mountaintop” experience, but a lifelong experience with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In selecting this team, we believe there should be benefits to being committed to Christ and in serving His Church here at Bayside. This is one way we want students to know their faithfulness and commitment is recognized and appreciated. While we understand that students cannot be at every service, mission or event, we believe that missing church and youth group should be the exception and not the rule. In a culture that says, “More World - Less God,” we want students to know that “More God – Less World” is the answer. (1 John 2:15-17)

Our prayer is that 100% of the students who come through our student ministry program will be a part of this team. We desire to see all students GROW in Christ through worship and bible study and by CONNECTING with one other in the building of fellowship. Acts 2:42 reminds us that we are to be DEVOTED to the Lord, to the teachings of scripture and to fellowship with each other. When that happens, we will see the world “turned upside down” because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Acts 17:6)

For those students who are not yet eligible for this team please know that we are committed to helping you grow in your faith in Jesus and in helping you achieve these goals. Please also remember there are many exciting services, events and activities that are planned for our student ministry this year. All of you are invited to attend these events and are encouraged to bring guests so that we can continue to grow our student ministry here at Bayside. For event information please check out the student ministry page on our website at: www.baysidebaptist.com

Students who are interested in joining the Student Travel Team should review the eligibility requirements and may request an application from our Student Ministry Director, Brittany Powers at: brittanybakerpowers@gmail.com. Once the application is submitted it will be reviewed by our student ministry team and by our pastors/elders. There will also be a required student/parent meeting to review the requirements and answer any questions that you may have.

Typically, applications should be submitted between August 1-31 each year. There will also be other opportunities to submit applications on a case-by-case basis and as new students join the church/group. Students must reapply each August for the following church year. Please note that students will continually be evaluated based on their commitment to Christ and to Bayside and their eligibility status is subject to change based on their circumstances and commitment.

Thank you again for your interest in our Student Travel Team, If you should have any questions about this program please do not hesitate to contact Pastor Bob Lohr at: blohr@afba.com or Brittany Powers at the above email.
